How to measure a currency spread?
How to measure a currency spread?
Updated over 7 months ago

The spread is the difference between the best bid and the best ask quotes of a currency pair, is measured in pips, and affects the cost of entering a trade. (Spread = Best Ask Price – Best Bid Price)

*The bid price is the price you can sell the base currency

*The ask price is the price to buy the base currency

*The base currency is shown on the left of the currency pair. Also, the variable, quote or counter currency, on the right.

To visibly see the spread on the chart in metatrader, right click on the background of your chart, click Properties at the bottom of the menu that appears, then go to the “Show” tab up the top of the window that opens. Ensure “Show ask price line” is ticked then press ok. On a small time frame such as M1 (1 minute) or M5 (5 minute), the spread might be visible by the difference between the ask line and the bid line.
