Why Can I Only Withdraw or Transfer 95% of My Free Margin with Open Positions?

Updated today

When you have open positions on your trading account, FXTRADING.com limits withdrawals and transfers to 95% of your available free margin. This policy is designed to protect your trading positions from unexpected market fluctuations that might occur between the time you request a withdrawal/transfer and when it's processed.

How It Works

  1. Maximum Withdrawal/Transfer Amount: When you have open positions, the maximum amount you can withdraw or transfer from your account is 95% of your current free margin.

  2. Market Fluctuation Protection: This 5% buffer helps protect your positions from sudden price movements that could occur during the processing time.

  3. Real-Time Market Conditions: Your free margin can change rapidly due to market volatility, even in the moments between submitting your request and its confirmation.

Example

If your account shows:

  • Balance: $10,000

  • Open positions using $3,000 margin

  • Free margin: $7,000

The maximum withdrawal or transfer amount would be $6,650 (95% of $7,000), leaving a $350 buffer to protect your positions from market fluctuations.

Important Notes

  • This limitation applies to accounts with open positions for both withdrawals and internal transfers

  • For accounts with no open positions, you can withdraw or transfer up to 100% of your balance

  • The Client Portal will automatically calculate your maximum withdrawal/transfer amount
