MT4 desktop: Navigator favorites and keyboard shortcuts

Find MT4 programs, organize favorites, assign shortcuts and use fast chart navigation without changing an order.

These instructions cover desktop MT4. They do not establish identical menus in MT5, Web Trader or FXTRADING.com App. Work on the intended chart and check its full symbol, including any suffix.

Open Navigator

  1. Choose View → Navigator, press Ctrl+N, or use the Navigator toolbar button.

  2. In Common, expand Indicators, Expert Advisors or Scripts to find the intended program.

  3. Opening the window or selecting a name does not demonstrate that the program is installed correctly, compatible or safe to run.

Create a short favorites list

  1. Right-click the intended program in Common and choose Add to Favorites.

  2. Open Favorites to find your selected programs without searching through every group.

  3. To remove a shortcut, right-click it in Favorites and choose Remove from Favorites. The program remains available in its original Common group.

Assign a program shortcut

  1. Right-click the intended program and choose Set Hotkey.

  2. Choose the key combination in the shortcut settings and confirm it. Account entries do not support program hotkeys.

  3. A custom combination takes priority over a built-in shortcut. Check existing assignments before using a familiar combination.

  4. If Ctrl+O was assigned to a program, it will launch that program rather than open platform options. Review custom assignments when a shortcut behaves unexpectedly.

Use fast chart navigation

  1. Activate the intended chart and press Enter to open the fast navigation box in its lower-left corner.

  2. Enter one command using the examples below, then press Enter to apply it. Press Esc to leave the box without applying the command.

  3. Use the complete broker symbol name. A bare symbol can differ from the instrument with the required suffix.

  4. Check the resulting chart symbol, timeframe or displayed time. Navigation changes the chart view; it does not place an order.

Command examples

  • A time: 14:30. A date: 2026.10.01. Date and time: 2026.10.01 14:30.

  • A symbol: EURUSD. Replace it with your account's complete available symbol.

  • A timeframe: M15. Supported forms include M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1 and MN.

  • Symbol and timeframe: EURUSD,H1. Substitute the complete symbol you actually use.

Useful window shortcuts

  • Ctrl+N opens or hides Navigator.

  • Ctrl+M opens or hides Market Watch.

  • Ctrl+D opens or hides Data Window.

  • Ctrl+T opens or hides Terminal.

A program shortcut can launch an EA or script. Understand its behavior before activating it; a trading program may place or manage orders. Do not use a real account merely to test an unfamiliar shortcut.

If a shortcut or program is still missing, describe the MT4 version, program name, relevant key combination and exact message. Never include a password or verification code.
