This guide covers built-in indicators in desktop MT4 and MT5. Choose the chart you intend to work on; changing an indicator on one chart does not apply the same change to every chart.
Add an indicator to a chart
Open the intended chart and check its complete symbol name and timeframe. If several charts are open, click inside the one you want to change.
Choose Insert → Indicators and select the indicator. Alternatively, drag it from the Indicators group in Navigator onto the intended chart.
Review the indicator's calculation settings before confirming. Available settings depend on the indicator; a lookback period and a price-data choice have different purposes.
Set the available line colours and style. In Visualization, check that the current chart timeframe is selected so the indicator can appear there.
Confirm the settings and inspect the result. A Moving Average normally overlays the price chart; an oscillator such as MACD can appear in a separate subwindow. Do not expect every indicator to draw directly over the candles.
Change an indicator that is already applied
In MT4, select the indicator in Indicators List and choose Edit, or right-click its plotted line and choose Properties.
In MT5, right-click the chart and choose Indicator List. Select the intended indicator and choose Properties. The list separates indicators on the main chart from those in subwindows.
Change the required settings, confirm, and check the result on the same chart. Where several copies of an indicator are applied, verify which copy you selected before editing.
If the indicator is missing or looks different
Check the chart and subwindow first. A separate indicator pane may be small; a line colour close to the background can also make a plotted line difficult to see.
Check Visualization. An indicator restricted to selected timeframes can disappear when you switch to a timeframe that is not selected.
Compare the calculation settings and chosen input data, as well as the complete symbol and chart timeframe. Different settings or data can produce different values; do not assume another chart is an exact match.
For some indicators, display levels or scale settings are available. Review the controls actually offered by that indicator rather than expecting every indicator to have identical tabs.
Remove the intended indicator
Confirm the active chart and identify the exact indicator you want to remove, especially if several copies are present.
Right-click the indicator's plotted line or histogram and choose Delete Indicator. In MT5, you can also select it in Indicator List and click Delete.
Delete Indicator Window removes the indicator subwindow. Check what is in that window before using this broader command; choose the individual indicator command when you only want to remove one study.
Desktop scope and custom programs
Built-in indicator management differs from installing a custom indicator. A custom MT4 program is not automatically compatible with MT5. These desktop instructions do not establish the same menus or custom-program support in Web Trader or FXTRADING.com App.
Indicator readings support analysis; they do not guarantee a future price or trading result. Adding, editing or removing a built-in indicator does not itself place an order, close a position or change its Stop Loss or Take Profit.
If a problem continues, describe the platform version, indicator name, chart symbol and timeframe, settings involved and exact message. Never include a password or verification code.
