MT4 desktop can use your mailbox settings to send messages from alerts or programs. This is separate from your FXT email and notification preferences.
Configure the mailbox
Open Tools, select Options, then Email.
Select Enable. Obtain the SMTP address, port and compatible authentication details from your email provider.
Complete the fields described below. Use mailbox authentication, not trading-account credentials.
Enter one sender address and one recipient address. Multiple addresses in either field are not accepted.
Click Test to send a test message to the recipient. Check the response and receiving mailbox.
If successful, click OK to apply. If it fails, check the settings and provider compatibility before another test.
Understand the fields
Field | Purpose |
SMTP server, login and password | The outgoing server address and port, plus mailbox authentication. |
From | The sender address for the configured mail server. |
To | The single mailbox receiving the messages. |
If the test works but alerts do not
A test confirms that message at that time. Check that the alert or program is configured to send email and that the relevant condition is reached. Keep the desktop terminal running and connected for local alerts. Check its logs if sending fails.
Do not use a sample port as a universal setting or disable mailbox security to make a test pass. Email-provider requirements may differ. Never share mailbox passwords, app passwords or authentication codes with support. Menu wording can vary with the installed language.
