Maximum leverage is the highest leverage setting that may be available to an account. The leverage that applies to a specific position can be lower because of the instrument, account equity, total exposure, legal entity, platform or a temporary product rule.
Higher leverage increases both potential gains and potential losses and can cause margin requirements to change more sharply.
Where can I check my account leverage?
Sign in to the FXTRADING.com Client Portal.
Open the account list or dashboard.
Select the relevant trading account.
Review the leverage currently displayed for that account.
For an instrument-specific requirement, connect to the correct account and server in MT4 or MT5, open Market Watch, open the instrument's Specification, and review the current margin information.
How do I request a different maximum leverage?
In the Client Portal, locate the relevant trading account.
Open the account actions menu.
Select the available leverage-change action.
Choose from the ratios currently offered for the account.
Review and confirm the change.
If a ratio is not offered, it is not currently available through that account flow. Open positions, account status or another restriction may affect whether a leverage change can be completed.
Maximum leverage and effective leverage
Maximum leverage is the upper setting available to the account. Effective leverage is the leverage that applies after current product, equity, exposure and risk rules are considered.
For example, an account may have a higher maximum setting while a lower leverage applies to a particular instrument or during a specified trading window.
What can reduce the leverage available?
The instrument or asset class
The account type and legal entity
Account equity thresholds
Total position size or exposure
Platform or product restrictions
Specified low-liquidity or pre-close trading windows
A restriction displayed for the account

Use the most specific rule that applies to the account and instrument. When two displayed values differ, the lower applicable leverage determines the margin requirement.
After a leverage change
Review the updated account and instrument information before placing another order. Reconnect to MT4 or MT5 if necessary so the platform can display the current margin parameters.
A leverage setting is a technical account parameter, not a recommendation about position size or trading risk.
