What are the open and pending order and trade-size limits?

Learn the combined open and pending order limit, the platform-level single-order volume limit and how to check lower instrument-specific limits.

FXTRADING.com trading accounts support up to 500 open and pending orders combined at the same time. The maximum platform-level volume for a single order is 100 lots.

The permitted size for a particular order may be lower because of the instrument specification, account type, server, available margin, market status or another account control.

Maximum open and pending orders

A trading account can have up to 500 open and pending orders combined. The limit is cumulative across all symbols, buy and sell directions and trading strategies on the same trading account.

For example, 300 open orders plus 150 pending orders count as 450 of the 500 available orders. Closed orders and cancelled pending orders do not count.

Maximum size of one order

The maximum platform-level volume for one order is 100 lots. This is separate from the maximum number of orders.

Every order must also comply with the selected instrument's minimum volume, maximum volume and volume step, as well as available margin and current trading conditions. If an instrument displays a maximum below 100 lots, follow the lower limit.

Check an instrument's trade-size specification

MT4

  1. Connect to the correct trading account and server.

  2. Open Market Watch.

  3. Right-click the instrument and select Specification.

  4. Review minimum volume, maximum volume, volume step, contract size, margin requirements and trading sessions.

MT5

  1. Connect to the correct trading account and server.

  2. Open Market Watch.

  3. Right-click the instrument and select Specification.

  4. Review Volume min, Volume max, Volume step and the other contract details.

The order ticket may also display or enforce the permitted volume.

What happens when a limit is reached?

If the account already has 500 open and pending orders combined, another order will not be accepted until an open order is closed or a pending order is cancelled.

An order may still be rejected below the 500-order limit because of insufficient free margin, an invalid volume step, an instrument-specific limit, market status, trading hours, price or liquidity conditions, or an account restriction. Read the exact platform message before trying again.

Do not split an order into smaller orders merely to bypass a displayed restriction.

Does the maximum guarantee execution?

No. A permitted maximum is a technical limit, not a recommended trade size or a guarantee that an order will be accepted or filled at the requested price. Liquidity, market movement, gaps and execution conditions can affect the result.

Quick summary

  • Maximum open and pending orders combined per trading account: 500

  • Maximum platform-level volume per individual order: 100 lots

  • A lower instrument- or account-specific limit may apply

  • Closed and cancelled orders do not count toward the 500-order limit
