The temporary leverage policy takes effect on 1 September 2026 at 00:00 (GMT+3). Temporary limits are separate from normal dynamic leverage and the existing pre-close policy.
Which accounts does this policy cover?
It covers all four types of trading accounts on MT4 and MT5, as well as Social Trading Signal accounts and Funds Management accounts. Accounts under the ASIC entity are excluded from this policy. MT4/MT5: standard account, standard pro account, standard plus account, Raw Spread.
When can temporary adjustments be made?
Subject to applicable law and account terms, FXTRADING.com reserves the right to temporarily adjust applicable leverage limits and margin requirements at any time when its Trading Team considers this necessary because of news, significant events, market conditions or other risk considerations. This is not limited to scheduled releases or non-farm payrolls.
What is the standard news-period arrangement?
For designated economic news releases, the standard window for the Gold and Silver instruments below begins 15 minutes before and ends 15 minutes after the release. The news need not be about metals. The following ceilings apply to new positions opened in that window:
Instrument | Normal product maximum | Maximum during the standard window |
Gold — XAUUSD | 1:500 | 1:200 |
Gold — XAUEUR | 1:500 | 1:200 |
Silver — XAGUSD | 1:100 | 1:100 (unchanged) |
These are ceilings, not guaranteed settings. A lower applicable account, product, programme or regulatory limit continues to apply. For example, Gold already limited to 1:100 stays at no more than 1:100; a 1:200 restriction cannot increase it. Silver is not raised to 1:200.
Which positions are affected?
The restriction applies to new positions opened within its window. Closing one side of a hedge can also create uncovered volume requiring margin under the rules applicable at that time.
Existing positions are not repriced solely because the news window starts. However, closing one side of a hedge leaves uncovered volume whose margin is calculated under the rules applicable then; the remaining position is not a new position. Lower applicable limits still prevail. Normal dynamic leverage and the separate pre-close rules remain distinct.
This does not protect existing positions from market movements, losses or liquidation. Do not assume how pending-order activation, netting, add-ons or amendments are handled without confirmation of the applicable rule.
What happens to margin when I close one side of a hedge?
Closing one side of a full hedge leaves the other side uncovered. For example, after closing the sell side of a 1-lot buy and 1-lot sell in the same instrument, the remaining 1-lot buy requires margin immediately under the leverage and margin rules applicable at that time. This is margin on the position left open, not a newly opened position. A partial closure can also leave some volume uncovered.
The same principle applies during a designated news window, from 15 minutes before to 15 minutes after release. If you close one side then, the remaining uncovered volume uses the margin and leverage applicable then. A lower leverage limit can require more margin. The temporary policy's account and entity exclusions, affected products and lower limits still apply; this does not place every product at 1:200.
An increase in used margin can reduce free margin and margin level even though you closed a position. If the account reaches its applicable stop-out level, positions may be closed automatically. A reduction in free margin alone does not establish that stop-out must occur. Zero hedged margin does not remove spreads, swaps, commissions, price-gap or stop-out risk. Review the remaining exposure and applicable conditions before submitting a closure; after execution, check the account's displayed margin figures.
How do I check an individual adjustment?
Check the latest applicable official notice for the affected products and accounts, ceilings, start/end times and stated time zone. A calendar entry or an old email alone does not establish the current restriction.
The standard arrangement does not fix the products, ceilings or duration of every future adjustment. A displayed account maximum alone does not confirm the leverage available for a specific instrument or time.
What happens when the window ends?
Do not assume a guaranteed return to a higher leverage level or automatic margin recalculation for positions opened during the window. Check the applicable notice and current account/instrument conditions. Normal dynamic-leverage rules, pre-close restrictions and other lower applicable limits remain separate controls.
For a new position of the same size, lower leverage may require more margin. Review the applicable conditions and available margin before placing an order. A leverage ceiling is not a recommendation to trade, deposit funds or use a particular strategy.
