Authentication App for Two-Factor Verification

Overview

The authentication app security type uses a third-party application to generate verification codes whenever account verification is required. While Google Authenticator is recommended, most authentication apps are supported, including Microsoft Authenticator and others.

Setting Up Authentication App Security

For iOS Devices

  1. Open the App Store

  2. Search for "Google Authenticator" (published by Google LLC) or "Microsoft Authenticator"

  3. Tap "Get" to install the app (you may need to authenticate using Apple ID, Face ID, or Touch ID)

  4. Log into your Client Portal

  5. Go to Settings → Security settings

  6. Click Change under 2-step Verification

  7. Select Authentication app and click Next

  8. Scan the QR code with your authentication app or manually input the account details Note: The email address in the authentication app must match your registered email

  9. Enter the verification code displayed in your authentication app

  10. Verify using your current security type

  11. Once verified, your security type will be updated to authentication app

For Android Devices

  1. Download Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator from Google Play (use VPN if necessary)

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the app

  3. Log into your Client Portal

  4. Go to Settings → Security settings

  5. Click Change under 2-step Verification

  6. Select Authentication app and click Next

  7. Scan the QR code with your authentication app or manually input the account details Note: The email address in the authentication app must match your registered email

  8. Enter the verification code displayed in your authentication app

  9. Verify using your current security type

  10. Once verified, your security type will be updated to authentication app

Using Google Authenticator

Scanning QR Codes

The QR code appears in your Client Portal during setup and must be scanned by your authentication app. Open your authentication app, tap the "+" icon, and point your camera at the QR code.

Generating Verification Codes

Verification codes (also called Timed One-Time Pins or TOTP) are automatically generated in your authentication app. Simply open the app and look for the 6-digit code associated with your FXTRADING.com account. These codes refresh every 30 seconds.

Changing From Authentication App to Other Security Types

To Email

Note: This option is only available within the first 30 days of account registration

  1. Log into your Client Portal

  2. Go to Settings → Security settings

  3. Click Change under 2-step Verification

  4. Select Email and click Next

  5. Verify using your current security type (authentication app)

  6. Once verified, your security type will be updated to email

To SMS

  1. Log into your Client Portal

  2. Go to Settings → Security settings

  3. Click Change under 2-step Verification

  4. Select Phone or New phone number and click Next Note: The "New phone number" option requires you to enter a new phone number

  5. Verify using your current security type (authentication app)

  6. Once verified, your security type will be updated to SMS
